Talk Title: Metabolism drives (CAR) T cell function

Dr Anna Schurich is a Reader in Immunometabolism at King’s College London. Anna studied at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and obtained her PhD in Biomedicine from the University of Bonn, Germany, elucidating mechanisms of immune tolerance in the liver. She undertook her postdoctoral research at University College London, investigating T cell exhaustion in patients with chronic hepatitis B infection. Anna subsequently established her independent research group at King’s College London. Together with her clinical collaborators, her team investigates how cellular metabolism regulates human T cell function in infection, cancer, and immunotherapy. Her work focuses particularly on the metabolic fitness of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells to improve therapeutic outcomes. Her group’s current research is funded by UKRI, MRC and BBSRC, and CRUK. Anna leads the KCL iMet Immunometabolism Research Group and is an active member of the British Society for Immunology (BSI) Immunometabolism Affinity Group.
